Perfumes are the invisible bonds between the mind and the soul. What the mind processes on a rational level, the soul absorbs and alchemizes on a deep, spiritual plane.
Thus, a scent that penetrates our senses on a biological level simultaneously penetrates our soul, and through affection and emotion, the bridge between the two is formed!
Mind and spirit—encompassed within the shared olfactory tumult of a single molecule, capturing the memory for an eternity.
When you think of white, what scent comes to your mind? And instantly from your mind, how does that aroma traverse your soul, all the way to your core? What emotion did it give you, and where did the memory carry you?
White means purity, chastity, and innocence. Yet, it is also white that leads our thoughts toward cleanliness, the celestial, and peace! It is simultaneously innocent and spiritual.
Powder is the note that highlights white so beautifully.
Delicate, fine, and airy, the scent of powder suggests to me gentleness, innocence, and purity. Powder is weightless and light, like a diaphanous, serene dream—ethereal and almost transparent. Powder is pure magic encapsulated in finesse and delicacy.
It is impossible not to love powder as an aroma. It is slightly sweet, vanillic, sometimes with a subtle earthy undertone, sometimes creamy, other times dusty.
In perfumery, powdery notes are best captured by violet—with its slightly earthy, wet, and sweet, creamy scent—or by iris, which offers a subtle, gently floral and dusty aroma. We also find it in iris root—orris—with that distinct creamy-earthy scent. Sometimes musk creates that dusty sensation, reminding us of powder, but that powdery texture can also evoke the scent of lipstick and makeup cosmetics.
Why have I been telling you all this about powder until now?
Because I want to introduce you to a fragrance that is powdery by definition—a white, ethereal, diaphanous, and seductive magic.
Miroir Magique by Corniche d'Or balances on the fine line between powdery and woody; it is a powder so beautiful, perfect, and almost unreal. Corniche d'Or is a new niche house that wishes to bring to the forefront both the architectural beauty and the picturesque charm of the South of France.
Miroir Magique opens with juicy, sweet, fruity notes of peach and bergamot, yet it turns powdery almost instantly. And when I say it turns powdery, I mean the top notes merge with the heart notes, immediately transforming the fragrance into a fine, delicate, suave, and slightly sweet powder that is neither dusty nor heavy and outdated.
In the heart notes, we find violet, jasmine, and lily of the valley—an extremely delicate floral trio that brings that powdery-floral, diaphanous, and ethereal nuance, caressing and embracing you like a white silk scarf.
The base is woody, with warm, sweet, vanillic amber accents. Here, the woody notes intertwine with spicy facets, while amber arrives to round out the blend. Vanilla and praline notes add an extra layer of richness through sweet, delicious gourmand touches. Finally, musk steps in to powder the fragrance’s foundation, gently tempering the sweetness and bestowing upon the perfume a seductive, elegant aura.
The creator behind this fragrance is none other than Hamid Merati-Kashani, a perfumer renowned for countless olfactory masterpieces.
I must mention that despite being a new brand, Corniche d'Or has pleasantly surprised me—not only with the beauty of their bottles and their gorgeous scents crafted from high-quality ingredients, but also with the wonderful kindness experienced throughout our collaboration.
